Weight loss and cardiometabolic care continue to evolve, and one of the most exciting developments is the release of the new oral form of Wegovy® (semaglutide).
For some patients, taking a daily tablet may feel more approachable or easier to integrate into everyday life than a weekly injection. As always, the key isn’t just which medication you take, it’s how well it fits your body, your routine, and your long-term goals.
What is the Wegovy® Tablet?
The Wegovy tablet contains semaglutide, the same active ingredient found in the injectable version. It helps regulate appetite, improves feelings of fullness, and supports both weight loss and cardiometabolic health when combined with appropriate lifestyle changes. While the tablet offers an alternative to injections, it must be taken very precisely to be effective.
How to Take Wegovy® Tablets
To work properly, Wegovy tablets must be taken exactly as instructed:
- Take once daily in the morning on an empty stomach
- Take only with water (up to 4 ounces)
- Do not take with any other liquids
- Swallow tablets whole — do not split, crush, chew, or dissolve
- Wait at least 30 minutes before:
- Eating food
- Drinking beverages
- Taking other oral medications
If you miss a dose: skip it and resume with your next scheduled dose the following day.
Medication Timing Matters (Especially for Iron & Thyroid Medications)
If you take other medications, especially iron or thyroid supplements, it’s important to work with your physician to build a personalized schedule. Some medications can interfere with semaglutide absorption, so Wegovy tablets should not be treated as a one-size-fits-all prescription.
Switching From Wegovy® Injection to Wegovy® Tablets
Certain patients may qualify to transition from injectable Wegovy to the oral tablet.
Standard guidance:
- Patients currently on 2.4 mg weekly Wegovy injections for weight loss or cardiovascular health may switch to 25 mg tablets.
- Start the 25 mg tablet one week after stopping the injection.
Important: If you’re on a lower injection dose, the transition must be customized by your physician based on your health history, response, and tolerance.
Is the Wegovy® Tablet Right for You?
The tablet version may offer more flexibility, but it isn’t automatically the right fit for everyone. Considerations include:
- Other medications you’re taking
- Your medical history
- Your weight-loss goals
- Your daily routine and lifestyle
At Shapeology, we focus on personalized, sustainable care, not quick fixes. A conversation with our practitioner or nutritionist is the best way to determine if Wegovy tablets are right for you.
